PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR IN U-19 I-LEAGUE

With exactly a week to go before All India Football Federation’s U-17 Navi Mumbai Regional Academy Boys play their first-ever U-19 Tournament for I-League, Second Division and Academy Teams encounter against Mumbai FC U-19 Team at the Father Agnel Sports Complex in Vashi, here are the Players to Watch out For.

Milan Basumatary

Position: Striker

Striker Milan Basumatary was instrumental in helping Assam win the CocaCola U-15 National Championship 2012, finishing the tournament as top-scorer and Most Valuable Player.

He clearly spearheads the attack for the AIFF Regional Academy and has evolved into a classic number nine – extremely deadly inside the penalty area with his quick burst of space and clinical finishing.

Comfortable with either foot, he has the ability to take defenders head-on with his dribbling skills.

Bidyananda Singh

Position: Defensive midfielder

Manipur’s Bidyananda Singh has been part of the India Youth National Team setup since he was twelve, wearing the India colours for the first time during the AFC u-13 Festival 2009 and is currently one of the most crucial members of the AIFF Regional Academy, Navi Mumbai.

He captained the team during their recent victory in the Chandigarh Youth Challenge Cup. A versatile player, he has been utilized in various positions in defence as well as midfield.

Rakesh Oram

Position: Right winger

Bursting on to the scene with his impressive performances during the CocaCola U-15 National Championship 2012 where Orissa reached the final round, Rakesh Oram has gone from strength to strength after becoming a part of the AIFF Regional Academy, Navi Mumbai.

His impressive pace and fitness has made his the first choice winger and one of the most crucial players in the academy setup.

Gursimrat Singh

Position: Centre back

A natural leader both on and off the field, Punjab’s Gursimrat Singh Gill is one of the most promising defenders in the Indian Youth Set up today. Part of the Chandigarh Football Academy team which won various youth tournaments including the Subroto Cup in 2010.

Comfortable on the ball, he is equally adept with either foot and is a natural libero, contributing in both attack and defence for the Academy team.
