The Indian Women’s Senior National Team is eligible to take part in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, AFC Women's Asian Cup, SAFF Women's Championship, South Asian Games and various Invitational, International and Friendly matches involving National ‘A’ Teams.
Presently ranked 68 in the the FIFA Women's World Ranking as of August 2024, the Blue Tigresses are five-time champions of the South Asian region - winning the first five editions of the SAFF Women's Championships (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019). India have been runners-up in the Asian Women's Championship in 1980, 1983 and finished third in 1981. India have participated in the Asian Games on three occasions - 1998, 2014 and 2022.
The Indian women's team has also won the Gold medal on three occasions at the South Asian Games (2010, 2016, 2019). The most recent victory came in Pokhara, Nepal with a 2-0 victory over the hosts in the final.
In 2018, India qualified for the second round of the AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers for the very first time. The second round was held in April 2019 in Mandalay, Myanmar -- where the Indian side remained unbeaten in their three matches but bowed out on goal difference after recording wins against Indonesia (2-0) and Nepal (3-1), followed by a 3-3 draw against hosts Myanmar.
In 2023, India made it successive qualifications for the second round of the AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers after defeating Kygryz Republic twice away from home in Bishkek (5-0 and 4-0). However, the Thomas Dennerby-coached side lost all three matches in Round 2 to Japan, Vietnam and hosts Uzbekistan.
