About Team

This age-group is eligible to participate in the AFC U-23 Championship (pending qualification), and other invitational tournaments. Top 3 teams at the AFC U-23 Championship will get an automatic qualification to the Olympic Tournament.

The India U-23 team is largely managed by the senior team coaching staff, with the players from Indian Arrows, the U-19 squad, and all others in the transitional phase between the U-19 and the senior squads.

Most notably, India fielded a U-23 squad in the 2009 SAFF Championships in Dhaka and came out triumphant among other senior squads under the coaching of Dhyan Chand Awardee Sukhwinder Singh. India also went in with a U-23 squad for the tournament in 2018 and finished runners-up.

India’s best-ever performance in the U-22 Qualifiers came in 2012 when they finished second to hosts Oman in the qualifiers in Muscat.
