This team is eligible to participate in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, along with other age-group invitational tournaments.

With India set to host the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup 2020, the U-17 girls gain automatic qualification into the event next year. The tournament is slated to kick-off on February 17, 2021, with the final scheduled for March 7, 2021.

Most recently, the team had participated in a three-nation tournament in 2019 against Sweden and Thailand. India came runners-up in the tournament under head coach Thomas Dennerby, defeating Thailand in the group stage while going down to Sweden in the Final.

Sweden’s Thomas Dennerby, a name synonymous with women’s football coaching all around the world was roped in as the Head Coach in 2019. The UEFA Pro Diploma holder comes with a rich coaching experience of 30 years in which he guided Sweden Women's National Team to a third-place finish in the FIFA World Cup in 2011 and a quarterfinal spot in the 2012 London Olympics.
