This team is eligible to compete in the AFC U-19 Qualifiers and subsequently the AFC U-19 Championships (subject to qualification), and other various age-group invitational tournaments. A top 3 finish at the AFC U-19 Championship also guarantees automatic qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

It was in 2002 that India hosted the first edition of the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship though their best finish in the tournament came a couple of years later when they made it to the quarter-finals, beating the likes of Hong Kong and Singapore on the way.
