NEW DELHI: Assam came from behind to defeat Kerala 3-1 in a Group B fixture of the ongoing 37th Sub-Junior National Football Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on April 15, 2016.

In what was a cagey match, chances created by either Team were rare as the match was largely contested in the midfield with either defence thwarting away attacks. The first shot on target of the match came in the 9th minute, when livewire Adarrsh Das tested the Kerala custodian with a long shot, however to no avail.

In the 17th minute, Kerala took the lead against the run of play as Bavu Nishad caught Assam’s custodian wrong-footed with his shot from the edge of the penalty box to make the scoreline read 1-0.

After Assam went trailing into the tunnel by a solitary goal, they upped their ante and initiated constant attacks and shortly after wave after wave of attacks reaped profits as Samujjal Boragohain scored to equalize Assam’s deificit.

In the 63rd minute, Prathib Gogoi scored a cracker of a goal as he lobbed the ball over the onrushing Kerala custodian to give Assam a solitary goal lead as the scoreline read 2-1 in Assam’s favour.

Shortly after, Joydeep Gogoi extended Assam’s lead as he scored to make the socreline read 3-1.

Kerala tried their level best to equalize the deficit, but were kept at bay by the Assam defence line as the full-time scoreline read 3-1 in Assam’s favour.
