Manipur crowned Champions of Junior National Football Championship

NEW DELHI: Manipur were crowned Champions of Junior National Football Championship for Girls on October 21, 2015 as they steamrolled Odisha 5-0 in a one-sided Final at the Rosary Ground in Navelim, Goa.

A brace by Premi Chiru and a goal each by Ratanbala Devi, Kasmina and Ranjana Chanu were enough for Manipur to register a thumping ‘five star’ win over Odisha.

Undefeated throughout the Course of their campaign, Manipur dominated possession and showcased fluid attacking football, fostering chances at will to pummel the Odisha defence line throughout the course of the match.

The Manipuri contingent opened their goal scoring tally in the 6th minute of the match, courtesy of Premi Chiru volley from the edge of the penalty box. Six minutes, Manipur doubled their lead as Ratanbala Devi slotted her opportunity past the Odisha custodian.

Ranjana Chanu tripled Manipur’s lead in the 21st minute with a thumping header following a corner kick scenario. A Premi Chiru goal shortly after handed Manipur a four goal lead as the Half-time score-line read 4-0 in favor of Manipur.

Changing over and Odisha recouped to incept attack on the Manipuri citadel in an attempt to turn around the match. However the Manipuri custodian thwarted Odisha’s attempt with sheer acumen.

In the 47th minute of the match, Manipur’s Kashmina scored after sidestepping two defenders to hand Manipur a five goal lead.

With the remaining time nothing but formality, Manipur held onto the ball and dominated possession, jotting down short passes, while the defence line thwarted away Odisha’s attacks.

At full-time the score-line read 5-0 as Manipur were crowned deserved Champions of the Junior National Football Championship for Girls.
