Role Overview

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) invites applications from qualified Sports Medicine physicians for the position of Team Doctor with the Indian National Football Teams.

The Team Doctor will be responsible for delivering comprehensive medical care to players and technical staff, ensuring optimal player health, injury prevention, performance support, emergency care, rehabilitation oversight, and compliance with FIFA, AFC, WADA, and AIFF medical regulations.

The successful candidate will work closely with physiotherapists, strength & conditioning coaches, nutritionists, psychologists, coaching staff, and sports scientists to provide an integrated high-performance medical service.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-participation medical evaluations.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic sports injuries and illnesses.
  • Provide pitch-side emergency medical care during training sessions and matches.
  • Lead concussion recognition, assessment, and return-to-play protocols.
  • Coordinate specialist referrals, imaging, and surgical consultations when required.
  • Ensure safe return-to-play decisions in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Performance Medicine

  • Develop and implement injury prevention strategies.
  • Monitor player health, workload, recovery, and readiness for competition.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary performance meetings.
  • Advise coaches and technical staff regarding player medical status and availability.

Tournament Responsibilities

  • Travel with the team for national and international camps and competitions.
  • Ensure appropriate medical preparedness for all training sessions and matches.
  • Maintain comprehensive medical documentation during camps and tournaments.
  • Coordinate with local hospitals and tournament medical services.

Anti-Doping

  • Ensure compliance with FIFA, AFC, WADA, and NADA anti-doping regulations.
  • Educate players and staff regarding prohibited substances and medications.
  • Manage Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) documentation where applicable.

Administration

  • Maintain confidential medical records.
  • Prepare injury surveillance and medical reports.
  • Submit reports to the AIFF Medical Committee as required.
  • Maintain emergency medical equipment and team medical inventory.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), Government of India:

  • MD Sports Medicine (NMC Recognised)
  • OR
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Medicine (NMC Recognised)

Applicants must also:

  • Hold a valid registration with the National Medical Commission or State Medical Council.
  • Possess valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Essential Experience

Applicants should have experience in the assessment and management of sports-related injuries and illnesses, emergency sports care, and working within multidisciplinary sports medicine teams.

Experience with professional sports teams, elite athletes, football clubs, sports institutes, or high-performance environments will be considered an advantage.

Candidates with three (3) or more years of post-qualification experience in Sports Medicine will be preferred; however, applications from suitably qualified candidates with less experience are also encouraged and will be considered based on their overall merit and relevant experience.
