BHAVNAGAR, GUJARAT: Tlangnuam Futsal Club (Mizoram) defeated Progressive Sports Academy (Gujarat) 9-5 in a gripping final of the AIFF Futsal Club Championship 2025-26 at the SAG Indoor Stadium in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, on Sunday, June 28, 2026. They became the first club from Mizoram to win the title.
Producing a superb brand of play intent on possession and aggressive in approach, Tlangnuam led 3-2 at the breather, but some quick goals in the second half saw them run away with the lead as Joshuah Vaz's side proved too strong for the home side. Lalremtluanga, Lalsangkima and David Laltlansanga shone for Tlangnuam with a brace each, while Kiran Chhetri, PC Lalremruata and K Roluahpuia netted once each.

Tlangnuam kept the ball wide for the most part, while creating space in the middle for their marksmen to run in and take shots. They succeeded to a large extent. After conceding goals in the second half, Progressive went all out by utilising the powerplay. But they also committed fouls, and a direct free kick for their sixth accumulated foul also resulted in a goal late in the game.
Tlangnuam forged ahead in the sixth minute when Rony Lalenkima found Lalremtluanga unmarked deep down the left flank. Lalremtluanga did well to poke the ball into the near post. A brilliant move between Lalsangkima and Laltluangzela saw the latter push the ball past a maze of legs to Lalsangkima in the centre. Lalsangkima did well to place in from close quarters.
The 2-0 lead saw Tlangnuam relax a little as the intensity of their raids slowed down. Progressive took advantage and launched some furious counterattacks. The advent of Gaurav Kankonkar had an immediate impact as his bustling play unsettled the Mizoram side. He was able to pick up some spots for his colleagues to run in and shoot. He combined well with Chaitan Komarpant, who took a snap grounder. Goalkeeper Malhar Shah did not gather clean, and it slipped out. Skipper Nikhil Mali was on hand to roll it over the line. Kankonkar again played his part as he worked up a move down the left and quickly changed the line of attack. He put Lalsawmpuia in possession, and the wily pivot produced a long, low right-footer that settled past the goalkeeper into the net to make it 2-2.

But Tlangnuam came back strongly and once again forged ahead two minutes before the break. Jayesh Sutar fed Lalremtluanga with a superb pass in the middle, and the latter sent the ball screaming into the net to make it 3-2.
Kiran Chhetri turned scorer and provider soon after the restart. In the 25th minute, he converted a nice pass from Laltluangzela after Lalremtluanga had done the initial spadework. Soon after, Chhetri opened up the centre for PC Lalremruata to curl the ball around the defence. But Progressive reduced the margin as Aman Shah and Seaon D’Souza moved up in tandem. D'Souza drew the goalkeeper out and squared for Shah to swipe home.
But the 5-3 scoreline soon became 8-3 as David Laltlansanga found the net from deep inside his own half with the goalkeeper off his line.
Progressive sacrificed their goalkeeper to put Shah as the fifth outfielder in the powerplay. Shah found Komarpant free on the right. His shot deflected into the goal of goalkeeper Malhar’s outstretched legs.

Aggressively trying to get back into the game, Progressive committed a few fouls. They gave away a direct free kick after their sixth accumulated foul. Laltlansanga produced a fierce right-footer which goalkeeper Ozen Silva patted back, but Roluahpuia was on hand to ram it home and make it 9-4. Komarpant got his second, hitting home a measured pass from Mali. But with barely 19 seconds left, that was all the home team could do as Tlangnuam eventually triumphed at 9-5 for their maiden title.
