GOA: The All India Football Federation in association with the Goa Football Association hosted the FIFA Coach Educator Development Pathway Project, which concluded earlier today (Saturday, November 5, 2022) at the Dempo Sports Complex in Ella, Goa. India is one of the few countries to successfully adopt this landmark FIFA programme.

AIFF Secretary General Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran and Deputy Secretary General Mr. Sunando Dhar were in Goa at the closing of the event and were full of praise for the efforts of all stakeholders involved in the eventual success of the course.

“We are working very closely with FIFA and with the support of FIFA we would be able to develop a robust coach education structure which would also help us in producing higher number of coach educators consistent with our strategic goals to produce significantly higher number of licensed coaches to grow football at all levels," said Dr. Prabhakaran.

The programme featured 19 Coach Educators and 5 Coach Educator Developers, who underwent the training under FIFA Technical Experts Mr. Mohamed Basir Bin V Ellaya Kutty (Senior Manager, FIFA Coaching Development Department) and Mr. Bassem Ali Mohamad (Technical Director, Lebanon FA).

“Many thanks goes out to AIFF for being part of this Coach Educators' Development programme, in particular to Mr. Savio Medeira, Head of Coach Education and his team for the course organisation, facilitation and co-delivery. The participating coach educators selected by AIFF based on stringent criteria have demonstrated improving competencies since they first embarked on the programme in August and their learning journey will continue into next year where they will undergo the mentoring phase, both online and onsite with a dedicated mentor,” said FIFA Technical Expert Mr. Basir.

“We were grateful that AIFF Secretary General Dr. Prabhakaran, Deputy Secretary General of AIFF Mr.Dhar and the newly appointed President of Goa FA Mr. Caetano graced the closing ceremony today, an indication of their care and continued support for this long-term partnership project between FIFA and AIFF,” he concluded.

The programme trains coach developers who have been working for the past few months through an initial Online Learning Programme which was followed by an interactive E-Learning Module last month before all the coaches were finally invited to Goa for the Physical On-site course.

Over the five-day course period, the participants experienced classroom and field sessions all focused on the finer aspects of being a Coach Educator and understanding modern adult-learning techniques.
