Karnataka, Gujarat post big wins in Group B of Swami Vivekananda U20 Men’s NFC

NARAINPUR, CHHATTISGARH: Gujarat dominated Andaman & Nicobar 7-0 in their Group B contest of the Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's National Football Championship at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground, on Friday, May 2, 2025. In the other match of Group B Karnataka defeated Tamil Nadu 4-0.

Karnataka currently lead the table with six points from two games followed, by Gujarat with same points from three matches; the latter are behind due to an inferior head-to-head record. Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh both have three points each, though the team from the south are ahead by dint of a better head-to-head record. Meanwhile, Andaman & Nicobar are yet to score any points.

In a match that saw Gujarat score six of their seven goals in the second half, Kishan Singh was the stand-out performer, netting a brace.

Ashish Rana opened the scoring for Gujarat in 28th minute. Captain Kishan Singh began the scoring in the second half from the spot as he sent the keeper the wrong way in the 48th minute and went on to secure his brace in the 93rd. Pruthviraj Bariya, Arihant Rajpurohit, Manvendra Sarvaiya and Jesse Kom all scored a goal each.

Karnataka took an early lead through Saikhom Borish, who was left unmarked in the box scored as he scored a comfortable tap-in in the 12th minute. The forward went on to score double the lead in the 74th minute. B Abhiram and Divij Surapaneni both scored in 77th and 84th minutes, respectively, to seal the game for their side.
