NEW DELHI: The Indian eFootball national team has secured qualification for the FIFAe Continental Championship Asia 2026 in two games — eFootball Mobile and Rocket League — after consistent performances throughout the FIFAe Nations League 2026.

The FIFAe World Cup is FIFA's official esports competition, featuring three game titles in the 2026 season — eFootball Console, eFootball Mobile and Rocket League.

Players compete virtually by representing their respective national associations, with the objective of qualifying for the FIFAe World Cup Finals.

The first stage, called the FIFAe Nations League, consisted of three online competition weeks held from April to July in each of the three games. Teams were divided into six regional zones. India competed in the Asia (East) & Oceania region. Teams earned Consistency Points based on their performances in both the group stage and knockout rounds of each week, with the cumulative standings determining qualification for the second stage — the Continental Championship.

In the Consistency Rankings, the eTigers were placed second with 485 points in eFootball Mobile, and fifth with 450 points in Rocket League, and notched qualification for the Continental Championship by virtue of being the knockout round finalists in Week 3 of both games. India could not progress further in eFootball Console as they finished in 14th place.

Danial Patel (DaNiAL), Mujtaba Husaini (MujjiCool) and Shikhar (Garrincha31) represented India in the FIFAe Nations League 2026 ft. eFootball Mobile. The former two were also part of last year's contingent as India reached the quarter-final of the FIFAe World Cup 2025.

The team made an impressive start in Week 1, finishing top of their group before bowing out in the Round of 16. Week 2 was better as India once again remained unbeaten in the group stage, and had a longer run in the knockout rounds, ultimately ending in a semi-final defeat to Malaysia.

The third and final competition week featured a different format, with only the top two teams from each group advancing to a double-elimination knockout bracket. India once again progressed to the knockout stage, and then defeated the likes of Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Korea Republic before falling to Japan in the reverse final.

A top-two finish meant that the eTigers earned automatic qualification for the Continental Championship, but regardless, they had already accumulated enough Consistency Points over the three weeks to be among the four best teams overall.

The commendable FIFAe Nations League campaign saw India rise to eighth place in the FIFAe eFootball Mobile World Rankings.

A squad of five — Poojith R (Warr._.), Abhai Ponna (Abscrazy), Jayanth Engineer (orjanguse), Karthik Raghunandan (Karvin), and Aditeya Amol Srivastav (Riyal) — represented India in FIFAe Nations League ft. Rocket League.

India, ranked 25th in the world, began their campaign in Week 1 by finishing third in Group B with 10 points from six matches, before defeating Laos and Indonesia in the knockout round en route to the semi-finals. Week 2 saw another third-place finish in the group stage, followed by a win over Kyrgyz Republic in the Round of 16 and a defeat to Malaysia in the quarter-finals, which just about kept India alive in the hunt for a place in the next stage.

The eTigers had saved their best for the third and final week, racking up three wins against higher-ranked opponents. With larger stakes in the double-elimination knockout round, India not only defeated higher-ranked New Zealand twice but also staged a solid comeback from 0-2 down to defeat Malaysia by 3-2 to ensure a top-two finish and earn a Continental Championship berth.

The eFootball Console squad, consisting of four members — Ibrahim Gulrez (Ibrahim_gulrez), Chinmay Sahoo (chinmay433), Mahendra Chawda (MaahiGoku) and Abhishek Dhar (abhishekdhar) — could not replicate the success of their other counterparts, as they suffered back-to-back Round of 16 eliminations in the first two weeks. They finished fifth in the Week 3 group stage and could not progress to the knockout stage in what was their last chance to grab a place in the Continental Championship.

The FIFAe Continental Championship Asia 2026, to crown the first-ever FIFAe Continental Champions, will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from August 19 to 23.

The first four days will be headlined by eFootball Mobile, with a total of eight teams from the Asia East and West regions competing for three direct and one indirect (via the Intercontinental Playoff) slot in the FIFAe World Cup 2026 ft. eFootball Mobile. India will aim to qualify for their third successive World Cup in this category.

On August 23, India will seek a maiden appearance in the Rocket League World Cup when they compete against seven other nations from the Asia East and West regions for two direct and one indirect (via the Intercontinental Playoff) slot.
