NEW DELHI: All India Football Federation congratulated Kolkata’s Mohammedan Sporting for winning the 126th edition of the Durand Cup in New Delhi on Thursday (September 19) when they beat ONGC 2-1 in the Final. The Club had last won the history Tournament 73 years back.
Anthony Soren and Tolgay Ozbey scored one apiece for the Kolkata outfit while Lavino Fernandes reduced the margin.
AIFF President Mr. Praful Patel lauded the Kolkata outfit for their achievement. “I congratulate Mohammedan Sporting for their triumph. They will be playing in the I-League and wish them luck,” Mr. Patel said.
AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das said: “Mohammedan Sporting will always have a special mention in the History of Indian Football. They are back to the top flight after they qualified for this edition’s I-League and this is the perfect start for them. May the success continue.”
Mohammedan Sporting begin their I-League Campaign against Pune FC on Saturday.
