U-14 boys Team defeats Nepal 4-1, loses to Iran 1-3

NEW DELHI: The Indian U-14 Men’s National Team defeated Nepal 4-1 in the AFC U-14 Festival of Football in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on May 29, 2016.

The Indian Colts attacked right from the word go and took the lead in the 19th minute when Lalhriatpuia capitalized on an uncanny clearance by the Nepali custodian and scored to give India a solitary goal lead.

In the 32nd minute, Boinao’s volley landed in the back of the Nepali net from outside of the box to double India’s lead. A minute later, Angelo got on the scoresheet for India as he tapped home Ridge’s pass to make the scoreline read 3-0.

With the scoreline reading 3-0 in their favour, the Indian colts started to dominate possession and control the flow of the game. In the 53rd minute, Ainam’s rocket-of-a-shot from outside the box saw the light of day to make the scoreline read 4-0.

Nepal pulled a goal back shortly after but it was too little too late as the full-time scoreline read 4-1 in India’s favour.

In the early fixture of the day wherein the Indian colts faced Iran, Iran ran out eventual winners as they defeated India 3-1. Iran took the lead in the 18th minute and doubled their lead in the 34th minute through a penalty kick.

In the 43rd minute Iran put the result beyond doubt as they scored again to make the scoreline read 3-0 in their favour. The Indian colts tried to foster goal scoring chances but failed to penetrate the opposition’s citadel.

In the 54th minute, the Indian colts pulled a goal back through Ridge but failed to impose any serious comeback as the full-time scoreline read 3-1 in Iran’s favour.
