NEW DELHI: The Final phase of the 70th Santosh Trophy kicked-off in Nagpur, Maharashtra today (February 29, 2106) with Maharashtra defeating Jammu & Kashmir 3-1 and Railways holding Mizoram to a 1-1 draw in the Group A fixtures.

After a goalless first half, Railways took in the lead in the 54th minute courtesy of a Jagtar Singh strike, however Mizoram equalized in the dying embers of the match to make the final scoreline read 1-1.

Meanwhile a brace second half brace from substitute Shrikant Vermallu, who scored in the 61st and the 70th minute, and a Raynier Fernandes strike in the 84th minute, after Jammu & Kashmir minimized their deficit through Syed Sohaib in the 64th minute, lead Maharashtra to an easy win over Jammu & Kashmir.

With this win Maharashtra, go on top of Group A in the Santosh Trophy.

The Group B fixtures are slated to kick-off tomorrow with Tamil Nadu taking on Assam and West Bengal clashing swords against Goa.
