NEW DELHI: Even as the U-19 National Team is presently in Palestine for the AFC U-19 Qualifiers, All India Football Federation, keen on keeping the door for future selection into the squad a ‘revolving one’ has employed scouts at the ongoing U-17 Inter-school Subroto Cup in the Capital.

The AIFF had previously deployed scouts for the U-14 edition of the Tournament which was eventually won by Government Chawngfiang Middle School, Mizoram.

Furthermore, boys from the AIFF Academy in Goa will also be competing in the U-17 edition of the Tournament. Boys born on or after October 15, 1998 are eligible to play in the edition.

Speaking exclusively to www.the-aiff.com, AIFF Technical Director Scott O’Donell said that this would serve as a test for the boys as to whether they are “good enough to stay in the Academy.”

“With the AIFF Academy competing in the Subroto Cup it will give the current boys a chance to show their Coaches that they are indeed good enough to stay in the Academy. Likewise it will be a great opportunity for all the other Players participating to show our Coaches that they too deserve a place in the Academy,” O’Donell stated.

“Playing in a competitive environment will be an ideal stage to see how the Players cope up with pressure. They would be not only competing against local and foreign Teams but also knowing that they are being watched.”

The AIFF Academy have been drawn in Group G along with Teams from Oman, Brazi, Ukraine and Bengaluru FC.

The AIFF Technical Director also thanked the Organisers for the invitation.

“AIFF wishes all the Teams the very best and I need to thank the Organisers for the invitation and providing us the opportunity for us to use this platform as a vital tool for our future age-group National Teams,” O’Donell pronounced.
