KOCHI: La Rojita overcame a dogged Korea DPR defence to win 2-0 and secure their place in the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017.
Mostly set-up in the attacking half, the Spanish dominated possession and attempts, but they only managed to put the match away in the late going after an early goal set them on their way.
The opener came in just the fourth minute as Cesar Gelabert found Mohamed Moukhliss, who cut through the middle of the defence and finished simply in the end.
Moukhliss and Gelabert combined repeatedly to threaten the Korean goal, but goalkeeper Sin Tae Song was up to the task and Spanish coach Santi will need to worry about his side’s finishing.
Gelabert finally found a second in the 71st minute after a rare moment of Kroean disorganisation saw the ball loose in front of net. Any hopes of a fightback by the Asians were dashed when Pae Kwang Min was saw a straight red card 26 minutes after entering the match as a substitute.
