MOHUN BAGAN PROVE TOO STRONG FOR JSW BENGALURU FC
18 May 2017

Late goals from Kean Lewis and Bikramjit Singh saw Mohun Bagan claim a 3-1 victory over domestic rivals JSW Bengaluru in Group E of the AFC Cup at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium on Wednesday.

Jeje Lalpekhlua gave the hosts the early advantage after nine minutes, finishing low from a Raynier Fernandes through-ball, only for Seminlen Doungel to equalise for the 2016 runners-up with a fierce long-range effort on 52 minutes.

Then, with 16 minutes to play, Lewis restored the home team's lead with a strike from the left side and six minutes later Singh secured all three points with a powerful effort from distance as Mohun Bagan claimed the bragging rights from the all-Indian contest.

Bengaluru must now defeat Maziya Sports & Recreation of the Maldives in a fortnight's time to advance to the Inter Zone Play-off Semi-finals after the Maldivians' 2-0 win over Bangladesh's Abahani Limited Dhaka in Wednesday's other Group E encounter moved them three points clear at the top of the standings.
