India to play remaining FIFA World Cup qualifier matches in Qatar

NEW DELHI: The Indian men's senior national team will play their three remaining fixtures of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Qualifiers in Qatar, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed in a release today (March 12, 2021).

The release states, "Following a process of close consultation with Asia’s Member Associations, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has today confirmed the centralised venues for the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 matches scheduled to take place from 31 May to June 15, 2021."

"Meanwhile, FIFA World Cup 2022 host Qatar, will welcome Group E opponents Oman, Afghanistan, India and Bangladesh," it adds.

India, who are placed in Group E, will resume their qualifying campaign against reigning Asian champions Qatar on June 3, 2021. Four days later on June 7, 2021, the Blue Tigers will face Bangladesh. In their last fixture, India will take on Afghanistan, which is scheduled to take place on June 15, 2021.

In March 2021, the national team is set to play two International Friendlies against Oman and United Arab Emirates on March 25 and March 29 respectively, both of which will take place in Dubai. The preparatory camp for the same will begin in Dubai on March 15.

India's fixtures:

June 3: India vs Qatar
June 7: Bangladesh vs India
June 15: India vs Afghanistan
