East Bengal FC – 6 (Karthika Angamuthu 14’ 28’, Soumya Guguloth 45+1’, Sushmita Lepcha 45+4’, Fazila Ikwaput 70’, Resty Nanziri 87’)

East Bengal FC moved another step closer towards defending their title with a commanding 6-0 win against Sesa Football Academy at the East Bengal Ground.

Karthika Angamuthu scored twice, while Soumya Guguloth, Sushmita Lepcha, Fazila Ikwaput and Resty Nanziri also found the net to seal all three points for the Moshal Girls.

East Bengal created the first major opening in the seventh minute when Guguloth picked out Nanziri with a cutback from the right, but the forward skied her first-time effort from close range.

The hosts took the lead in the 14th minute after Sesa failed to clear their lines inside the final third. Angamuthu reacted quickest to the loose ball and struck from distance to find the net with an excellent finish.

East Bengal continued to dominate possession and doubled their advantage in the 28th minute through Angamuthu again. After Ikwaput was brought down just outside the box, the midfielder curled a well-taken free-kick towards the top-right corner. Sesa goalkeeper Monger Sangita got a hand to the effort but could not keep it out.

Sesa threatened briefly in the 35th minute when Maurine Achieng attempted an effort from distance, but the shot lacked power and was comfortably gathered by East Bengal goalkeeper Elangbam Panthoi Chanu.

The Moshal Girls struck twice in first-half stoppage time to put the game beyond doubt. Guguloth made it 3-0 in the 45+1st minute after weaving past multiple defenders at the edge of the box before calmly finishing past Sangita. Three minutes later, Loitongbam Ashalata Devi delivered a pinpoint cross from the right for Lepcha, who rose above her marker to head home East Bengal’s fourth.

East Bengal controlled proceedings comfortably after the break and added a fifth in the 70th minute. A sloppy pass at the back allowed Ikwaput to pounce on the loose ball, drive into the box and slot home with composure.

Nanziri completed the scoring in the 87th minute after cutting in from the right flank. What initially appeared to be a cross towards the far post ended up finding the net after taking a touch off the upright.

Kickstart FC, Karnataka – 1 (Saru Limbu 16’)
Gokulam Kerala FC – 0

Kickstart FC Karnataka edged Gokulam Kerala FC 1-0 at the National Centre of Excellence, with Saru Limbu’s first-half strike proving decisive.

Kickstart enjoyed the better exchanges in the opening stages and took the lead in the 16th minute through a well-worked move down the left flank. Limbu timed her run perfectly to latch onto a defence-splitting pass before calmly slotting the ball past Gokulam goalkeeper Sowmiya N.

Gokulam improved significantly after the break and spent large spells pinning Kickstart back inside their own half. Lourembam Menaka Devi came close to an equaliser in the 52nd minute when her inswinging corner nearly resulted in an Olympic goal before landing on the roof of the net.

Two minutes later, Shilji Shaji almost levelled the scores after working space for herself inside the box despite heavy pressure, only to see her effort crash against the crossbar.

Kickstart nearly doubled their lead in the 70th minute when Sorokhaibam Ranjana Chanu’s swerving free-kick almost caught Sowmiya off guard, but the goalkeeper recovered well to parry the ball away.

Gokulam continued to push late on, and deep into stoppage time, Shaji tested Maibam Lingthoingambi Devi with a curling effort from the right side of the box, but the Kickstart goalkeeper produced a timely save to preserve all three points.

Sribhumi Football Club – 3 (Veronica Appiah 32’, Philomena Abakah 78’, Dangmei Grace 90+5’)

Sribhumi Football Club and Nita Football Academy played out a six-goal thriller at the National Centre of Excellence as the two sides shared points in a 3-3 draw.

After a competitive opening quarter, Nita broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute through a counter-attack. Neha led the charge down the left flank before cutting the ball back for Elizabeth Katungwa Kioko, who poked home from point-blank range.

Despite Nita’s overall dominance, Sribhumi equalised against the run of play in the 32nd minute. Following a slick passing move in the final third, Veronica Appiah was played through inside the box with a defence-splitting pass and finished deftly past the goalkeeper.

Nita restored their lead in the 43rd minute through captain Pyari Xaxa. Matilda Kwao picked out Xaxa on the right flank with an aerial through ball, and spotting Sribhumi goalkeeper Moirangthem Monalisha Devi off her line, Xaxa produced a first-time effort from distance that looped over the keeper and into the net.

Nita started the second half strongly and extended their advantage in the 55th minute. Neha turned provider again from the left as her low cross found Kioko inside the box, with the Kenyan forward slotting home to complete her brace.

Sribhumi responded in the 78th minute when Philomena Abakah met a delivery with a looping header to reduce the deficit.

The Kolkata side completed the comeback deep into second-half stoppage time from another set-piece situation. Mousumi Murmu’s header struck the crossbar before Dangmei Grace reacted quickest to head home the rebound and rescue a point for her side.
