NEW DELHI: All India Football Federation condoles the death of former India International Mr. Amar Bahadur Gurung.
Amar Bahadur made his International Debut for India in 1967 vs Cambodia in the Asia Cup Qualifiers in Cambodia and had represented India in 22 matches. He was 74.
Bahadur was part of India’s Bronze Medal winning squad in the 1970 Asian Games when India went on to beat Japan 1-0.
AIFF President, Mr. Praful Patel in his message said: “It is sad to hear that Mr. Amar Bahadur is no more. His contribution to Indian Football will never be forgotten. I share the grief.”
AIFF General Secretary, Mr. Kushal Das said: “Mr. Amar Bahadur will be alive in his achievements. He has been the inspiration of so many Footballers. May He Rest in Peace.”
He also represented India in three editions of the Merdeka Cup and played in the Pesta Sukan Cup in 1970.
At the domestic level, he was part of the triumphant Goekha Brigade squad which won the Durand Cup in 1966 and won the Rovers Cup for Mafatlal SC in 1968.
In the Santosh Trophy he represented Services and Maharashtra scoring eight goals (all for Maharashtra).
