NEW DELHI: The Indian U-17 World Cup Squad currently on an exposure trip to South Africa thumped Botswana’s U-17 National Team 10-1 in an International Friendly on February 28, 2016.

Six goals by Abhijit Sarkar, a brace by Komal and a goal a piece from Suresh and Sanjeev led India to a thumping win over their opponents.

The Indian Colts were quick to come off the blocks and could have taken the lead as early as the 4th minute had Boris’s shot not rattled the bar following a quick interchange of passes around Botswana’s 18 yard box.

Four minute later however, the outcome was different as Komal did justice to an Amarjit through ball and hammered home his chance to hand India a solitary goal lead. In the 10th minute, Komal once again made the opposition pay as he tapped home a Sanjeev low cross to double India’s lead.

With the Indian Colts garnering a healthy lead in less than 20 minutes, Botswana adopted a defensive stance to thwart off the Indian attacks. However it could hold only ten minutes long as Abhijit Sarkar scored in the 20th minute to make it 3-0 in favour India.

Nine minutes later, Abhijit once again popped up clear of the defensive mix in Botswana’s 18 yard box and scored to give India an unassailable 4-0 lead. In the 37th minute, Abhijit completed his hattrick as he cleverly finished his chance to make it 5-0.

Botswana pulled a goal back in the 41st minute, as the half-time scoreline read 5-1 in India’s favour.

Unstoppable for the Botswana defence line, Abhijit Sarkar scored his fourth goal of the match in the 57th minute as the opponent’s deficit increased by five goals. Four minute later, Sarkar once again punished the opposition’s defence for uncanny play and scored to make it 7-1 for India.

Two back to back goals in the 70th and 71st minute, by Abhijit Sarkar and Suresh respectively, inflicted more misery on Botswana as the scoreline read 9-1 in India’s favour. Seven minutes later, Sanjeev volleyed home to make it 10-1.

The full-time scoreline read the same as the Indian U-17 World Cup Squad registered routed Botswana’s U-17 National Team.
