AFC Women's Football Day witnesses 'tremendous participation' across India

NEW DELHI: To mark International Women's Day on March 8, 2020, All India Football Federation had celebrated the week with its State Associations throughout the nation. It covered a wide range of activities among a diverse range of participation, where more than 7,500 people took part between March 5-11, 2020.

Additionally, FIT India extended their support to AIFF to celebrate the event, which promoted more participation in the country and helped spread the message of the ‘beautiful game.’

In a letter to Dato Windsor John, General Secretary, AFC, Mr Kushal Das, General Secretary, AIFF, wrote that the celebrations brought about “tremendous participation” across the nation.

"We are pleased to inform you that as part of our continued efforts to promote grassroots and women's football development activities throughout the nation, the AFC Women's Football Day 2020 celebration attracted tremendous participation in India," Mr Das wrote.

"The celebration engaged various activities for women and girls from different backgrounds, regions, ethnicities and age groups. The events included children football, school football, amateur football, futsal and beach soccer, leisure football, veteran's football, community football and disability football,” the letter further stated.

"The AFC Women's Football Day created a memorable experience for participants and promoted a positive vibe for everyone involved. We thank you and look forward to your continued support."

The celebrations witnessed over 7,500 participants in 18 states across the length and breadth of India -- such as Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Mizoram, etc. Over 600 volunteers assisted in conducting the events successfully.

Participants ranged from a variety of sources as schools, colleges, academies, local community programs, clubs, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Open-to-all events, etc.
