Bio

Hailing from the state of Punjab, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu is the first-choice goalkeeper for the Blue Tigers. Sandhu was born in Chandigarh, and made his senior international debut in 2011 against Turkmenistan, after representing India at various youth level tournaments as well.

Gurpreet was always touted to be one of the best to come through the ranks for India. He showed incredible maturity ever since he was a teenager and always displayed skills to be a leader. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu holds the distinction of being the only Indian to play in the UEFA Europa League - a feat he achieved while playing for Norwegian club Stabaek. He also captained the European club when he was 24-years old, becoming the first Indian to achieve this feat as well.

Sandhu has also donned the captain's armband on a number of occasions for India, the first of which came against Puerto Rico in 2016 in a friendly match. He was also the captain of the Blue Tigers’ memorable 0-0 draw away to Asian champions Qatar, where he produced a Man of the Match performance.

Gurpreet continued to show his class after returning to India in 2017, as he joined Bengaluru FC in the Hero ISL, winning the trophy during the 2018-19 season, and the Hero Super Cup in 2018. In 2019, Sandhu received the Arjuna Award from the President of India, becoming the 26th footballer to do so.
