FIFA MA Referee’s Fitness Course underway in Gandhinagar

NEW DELHI: It’s a FIFA first, and it’s being held in India. For the first time in the World - a 4 day FIFA Referee’s Fitness Course is being conducted and FIFA has chosen India as the destination.
All India Football Federation on a collaborative effort with FIFA is presently conducting a FIFA MA Referee's Fitness Course in Gandhinagar. The program, which is scheduled in two spells of 4 days commenced June 21 and 90 Referees across the Country are taking part in the Programme.
Ganesan Maniam, FIFA Referee's Fitness Instructor from Singapore is overseeing the programme.
“The Course is significant as it's the first time in history that a Referee’s Fitness Course is being held over a period of 4 days,” Col. Goutam Kar (retd), Director (Referees) AIFF informed.
"The Course will guide the Referees to maintain their fitness during the season as well as off-season. They will have a better idea of the rigorous fitness regime required for them and surely they will be fitter and sharper on their next outing,” he maintained.
90 Referees have been chosen on the basis of their merit and are going through the grind of the four-day Course. Frontline FIFA panel Referees like Pranjal Banerjee, Santosh Kumar amongst others are undergoing the training programme.
The second stint of training will start on 26th June and will wrap up of 29th of the month.
Banerjee, touted as one of the best in the business currently is delighted to be invited to the programme. "The Course is an expedient one for us to streamline our diet, activities during off-days as well as match days. We're really thankful to AIFF for organising such a significant Course ahead of the forthcoming season,” he told www.the-aiff.com.
