HERO INDIAN WOMEN'S LEAGUE 2017-18 LAUNCHED IN SHILLONG

SHILLONG: The Hero Indian Women’s League 2017-18 was officially launched at the State Convention Centre here in Shillong on Saturday, March 24. The Hon’ble Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt. of Meghalaya, Mr. Banteidor Lyngdoh was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Mr. Larsing Ming Sawyan, Meghalaya Football Association President and Senior Women’s National Team Head Coach, Maymol Rocky were the guest of honour. AIFF officials, MFA officials along with players and coaches from all the participating teams were the other attendees.

In a glittering ceremony the captains of the participating teams found themselves under the limelight when they joined Mr. Lyngdoh to unveil the Hero Indian Women’s League trophy.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Lyngdoh said, “I am happy that the AIFF has chosen Shillong as the venue for the IWL Final Round and I can assure the full support of the people of Meghalaya.”

“I wish all the teams, the best of luck. May we see great football and may the best team win”, he added.

The coaches and captains were also brought on stage for a couple of questions and a quick of round of instructions with Meghalaya showcasing its rich cultural heritage with a Khasi tribal dance.

The Hero Indian Women’s League 2017-18 kicks-off on March 26 with defending champions Eastern Sporting Union taking on Indira Gandhi Academy for Sports & Education.
