NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu edged past Assam by a solitary goal, while Kerala defeated West Bengal 3-2 in the ongoing Group stage fixtures of the Junior National Football Championship in Cuttack, Odisha.

Rasiga’s strike in the 37th minute proved to be the difference between Tamil Nadu and Assam as the full-time scoreline read 1-0 in Tamil Nadu’s favour. A late coup by West Bengal failed to topple Kerala’s sterling attacking performance as Kerala went into the half-time leading 1-0, courtesy of Unnimaya goal in the 43rd minute and added to their tally in the 57th and the 74th minute through Anagha and Unnimaya respectively. Although West Bengal scored two late goals courtesy of Sayani Naskar’s strike in the 75th and Sunita Sarkar’s goal in the 81st minute, Kerala stood strong to see out the match 3-2.

Meanwhile, in the late kick-offs for the day, Uttar Pradesh hammered Andhra Pradesh 12-0 while Pondicherry defeated Chandigarh 6-0 wherein Sandhiya netted 5 goals.
