West Bengal to take on Odisha in Sub-Junior NFC Finals

NEW DELHI: West Bengal will clash swords against Odisha in the Finals of the 37th Sub-Junior National Football Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on April 23, 2016. The kick-off for which is at 4PM IST.

Both West Bengal and Odisha are undefeated in the Championship thus far, and with the stakes high in the final amongst two of the best Teams of the Championship, the showdown on April 22 is set to be a cagey, yet enthralling affair.

While, Odisha were drawn in Group A alongside Goa, Delhi, Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu, West Bengal were clubbed with Assam, Kerala, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh in Group B.

Regardless of the draw, both, West Bengal and Odisha showcased sterling Football in the Group Stages and both progressed into the Semi-Finals as Group Winners of their respective groups. Both continued their sterling form in the semi-finals as well, and while Odisha defeated Madhya Pradesh 3-1 in the first semi-final, West Bengal pummelled Goa 7-1 in the second, to seal berths in the Finals.

Although Odisha were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Goa in their opening encounter, they came back strongly and hammered Tamil Nadu 9-0, before defeating Delhi 2-0 and thumping Meghalaya 5-1.

For West Bengal, it was wins all around. After defeating Madhya Pradesh 3-0, West Bengal went on to hammer Haryana 6-1, Kerala 7-0 and Assam 2-1 in the Group Stages.
