NEW DELHI: Reigning Champions AIFF Elite Academy scored one in each half against Tata Football Academy to book a semifinal clash with U-18 Aizawl FC in the U-18 I-League.

Rahul Yadav put the Academy boys into the lead in the 44th minute when he headed home after Prosenjit Chakraborty’s solo run had split open the rival defence.

Jayananda Singh doubled the lead in the 62nd minute heading home an Anirudh Thapa free-kick.

The semifinal against Aizawl FC is slated to be played on February 7 (Sunday). For live commentary of the match follow www.i-league.org

Speaking to www.i-league.org, Head Coach Floyd Pinto sounded confident about winning their second consecutive age-group League. “We always prefer to play attacking football and will continue to do so. The contest will be tougher now and our boys have to prove their mettle to clinch the silverware,” he stated.

“The boys are not under any sort of pressure, but they have to prove themselves worthy of the AIFF badge on their jersey,” he further certified.

AIFF Elite Academy had a stupendous run in the zonal round netting 34 goals in 8 matches and conceded just 5.

They followed their imperious form in the U-18 I-League National finals and smacked in 15 goals in 4 matches with an average of more than 3 goals per game.
