TRIVANDRUM: Head Coach of the Indian National Team Stephen Constantine was all smiles after India defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in their first match of the SAFF Suzuki 2015 Cup today (December 25, 2015) at the Trivandrum International Stadium in Kerala.

Speaking at the Official Post-Match Press Conference, Constantine reflected on the win saying, “We took our chances in the second half. Had we taken them in the first the score-line would not be the same.”

“In the first half, we had a lot of possession but could not penetrate. The inclusion of Rowlin Borges (in the second half) made a difference for us as he pushed the ball forward.”

“It is all about positioning in Football, and today we were well positioned. However, there is always room for improvement.”

India dominated possession throughout the match, accumulated a staggering total of 10 corners and literally played the match in Sri Lanka’s half.

“Sometimes Goalkeepers have this kind of a game where they don’t touch the ball," explained Constantine, “But they have to remained focused and concentrate on the game.”

Apart from India's domination, another highlight of the game was the debut of an 18 year old Lallianzuala, whose skills were honed by Lee Johnson, Head Coach of the Indian U-19 Colts at the AIFF Elite Academy and who came on for Robin Singh in the second half.

“I have always believed in the philosophy that if they are good enough, they are old enough. And Lallianzuala is good enough for us.”

“Off-course there is a long way to go for him. All in all, he has a bright future ahead of himself." he added.

India next take on Nepal on December 27, 2015 at the Trivandrum International Stadium in Kerala. "Nepal will be a tough game. They are a hardworking and a difficult side to break down. We treat them with utmost respect. We have played thrice against them recently and have won only once."
