NEW DELHI: The AIFF U-17 Colts defeated Swedish Club side BK Hacken 2- 1, after extra time, in the Quarter-Finals of the ongoing Subroto Cup International Tournament 2015 at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital today (October 12, 2015).

With this win the Indian colts progressed into the Semi-Finals of the Tournament and will clash swords against Indonesia on October 14, 2015.

Coming on the back of a solitary goal win against Pune FC, the Indian colts fell behind to the Swedish opponents in the 18th minute of the match, courtesy of a header from a corner-kick.

However, playing against physically superior opponents, it was the Indian colts who dictated terms and attacked with fluency for most of the match. The colts started to attack from the opening minutes and Bodo’s sniff at goal came close to opening the scoring in the 3rd minute.

Two minutes later, Bodo was released onto goal by an exquisite through ball but the Swedish defence recouped to sweep clear the oncoming danger.

Conceding a goal in the 18th minute did little of deter Indian spirits and seconds after the conceding the Colts garnered perhaps the best opportunity of the first half, as a quick attack earned a top-notch save from the Swedish custodian.

The ricocheted ball fell to Edmund, who after feinting his way past his marker shot inches wide of the post.

With the Colts pressing for their equalizer with every touch of the ball, the Swedish Club committed bodies in defence. And at half-time the Indian contingent trailed by a solitary goal.

Two thirty five minute halves comprised the match. Changing over and the Indian colts were at it again seconds after the restart. Deependra’s exquisite through ball found Bodo one-on-one with the Swedish custodian, but the Swede made a delightful save to deny India the equalizer.

In the 53rd minute, the Indian colts were left to rue their complacency in-front of goal as they missed to score the equalizer with the goal at their mercy, following a tacky one touch play around the 18 yard box.

Seconds later, Ashraf’s deflected shot made its way to Bodo, but the latter failed to score from hand-shaking distance.

The break through, after much a-due, came for the Indian colts in the 56th minute after Bedeshwor was brought down in the penalty box following a sterling run. A calm and composed Edmund slotted the ball past the Swedish custodian to equalize India’s deficit and make the score-line 1-1.

Thereafter, both Teams entangled in a battle for midfield, with the Indian colts triumphing against their opponents on most occasions. However, with neither Team able to capitalize the full-time score-line read 1-1.

With penalties looming after extra time – two halves of 7 minutes each - the Indian colts tried to breach the Swedish fortress once again. In the 75th minute, Bodo’s cross was plucked out of the air acrobatically by the Swede custodian, and had the opponent Goalkeeper mistimed his catch, Edmund would have cushioned it home.

The Indian colts finally took the lead seconds in the second half of extra time as Nizam outpaced his opponent on the right flank to find Bodo, who tapped it home to make the scoreline 2-1.

In the dying embers of the match, Nizam went on a trailblazing run, leaving two defenders in his wake and only to shoot inches wide of the post.

Nevertheless, the determination and focus of the Indian colts paid dividends as they showcased character and passion to win 2-1 against BK Hacken.
