NEW DELHI: It takes tactical flexibility coupled with attacking fluidity and defensive solidity for any Team, orchestrated by its Coach, to craft out an undefeated season. Sanjoy Sen and his band of merry Mariners who are yet to lose a match in the ongoing Hero I-League, have been successful thus far (as on March 25, 2015).

As McDowell’s Mohun Bagan sit pretty atop current Hero I-League standings with 18 points (as of March 25, 2015), Sen in an exclusive interview with www.the-aiff.com, talks at length about the Kolkata-Derby, the undefeated run, challenges ahead, the competitive title race and a lot more. EXCERPTS:

What is your mantra behind this undefeated run of eight matches?

There is no mantra. We all are a single unit, which are trying its level best to win every match. The Players are fantastic and it is them that have achieved this feat. They are a contingent of hard workers and I am fortunate to have them.

What are your thoughts on the competitive nature of the Hero I-League?

Competition is good. This will not only enable every Team to bring out their best on the pitch but will also help to improve the level of Football. It is good for the overall growth of the Indian Football.

The Title race is also very narrow this season. Your thoughts?

We are title contenders and the title race will be a very entertaining one, for fans and critics alike, this season.

Mohun Bagan have two matches in hand as compared to their closest rivals Bengaluru FC. How much is that of an advantage?

Although we have two matches at hand, Football is very unpredictable. You don’t know the outcome of those two matches. But it is a mental advantage and we will play to win those matches. If we don’t, we could be leapfrogged by other Teams.

Do you believe that Mohun Bagan will win the Hero I-League title this season?

I hope so but Football is played on the pitch. We are taking one match at a time and will do so until the last match of this season. We are not to get complacent but will continue to emulate our hardworking form.

Balwant Singh has been a regular goal-getter for your Team. How much of that is brewed in the training grounds?

Like every Player Balwant Singh works hard in the training sessions. It is the collective effort of everybody which eventually results in him scoring. Nevertheless, it is a joy to watch Balwant bang goals on a regular basis.

The Kolkata Derby beckons next for Mohun Bagan. What will be your aim?

Three points! I aim to win the match. I have always emphasized on wins and will do so again.
