India women lose first practice match
19 Aug 2014
AIFF Media Team NEW DELHI: The high-flying Indian Women’s National Team, currently rehearsing for the Incheon Asian Games to be held next month finally fell prey to the law of averages, finishing second best in a practice match as the U-19 Boys of Mumbai Warriors edged their female counterparts 2-1. Prior to this match, the girls had won all of their four phoney wars riding on convincing margins. Coming to this tie, a Sasmita Malik second half strike wasn’t enough to change the tide which was already 2-0 in favour of the local Boys courtesy first half double strikes. But what stood out was the way the twice SAFF Champions refused to throw in the towel going for broke in the second half. This is the last week of training in Mumbai for the girls as they get set for the Exposure Tour to China. This will be India Women’s second appearance at the Asian Games.
