KOLKATA: Bideshwar Singh’s goal in the closing seconds of regulation time capped off an impressive comeback by Kolkata One against Kolkata Two in the second round round-robin games of the AIFF Inter-Academy Tournament at the Pailan World School Ground in Kolkata.
In what was a past-paced game with chances at either end of the pitch, Kolkata Two took the lead midway through the first half courtesy of a spectacular individual goal.
Lanky striker Krishna Singh set off on a long run down the left flank, taking on two defenders before unleashing a powerful drive into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-0.
Kolkata One’s response came in the second half when left back Jerry’s expertly executed long-range free kick sailed past the hapless keeper and into the opposition goal.
With the game headed for a draw, Bideshwar came to his team’s rescue, pouncing on a loose ball inside the penalty area to make it 2-1 at the final whistle.
In an earlier encounter, Mumbai One and Mumbai Two split points in a game that ended all square at 1-1.
