This is the third most important event of the FIFA calendar for Women’s Competitions, with 16 countries playing in 32 games across 5 venues in India. The tournament has a worldwide reach and is a golden opportunity to showcase to the world our cities & cultures, as well as our capability of organizing an event meeting the highest standards.

Undoubtedly, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 will have a lasting influence on Indian Football and is primed to be a game changer for the Football vision in India through upgradation of infrastructure, improved game operations standards and refining the overall quality of the game.

Job Description:

The Tournament Director will oversee the Local Organizing Committee for the tournament and shall be responsible for all matters pertaining to the organization, management, and hosting of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 in India. This position requires a true leader with the ability to negotiate, cooperate and make decisions by applying critical problem-solving skills.

As the leader of a diverse team, it is important that the Tournament Director takes an inclusive approach and can motivate others toward a common purpose.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead the LOC in planning and operations of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022.
  • Plan and execute the strategies of the different areas related to the department mission and objectives in line with the agreed deliverables with FIFA.
  • Ensure that all objectives of the LOC of the tournament are met in a timely and precise manner.
  • Responsible for planning, developing, and executing the delivery of the tournament on behalf of LOC and AIFF.
  • Provide direction to all functional areas regarding development and execution of the scope, schedule and budget required for the tournament.
  • The incumbent will be responsible and involved in the coordination between the AIFF, FIFA/AFC and LOC.
  • He/she must work along with FIFA, AFC, the AIFF, the Host Cities, and the Government of India to deliver the tournament, as well as be responsible for cooperating with the Indian government and the Host State Governments.
  • The Tournament Director must be adept at dealing with public matters and work to plan strategies, action plans, protocols and business plans to fulfil the mission and vision of the tournament and should be fully committed and dedicated to the job.

Candidate Profile:

A highly organized sports administrator with an experience of 12-15 years out of which at least 7-8 years is in a leadership role, working in complex, international, high-growth sports events and having demonstrated success in management of large-scale projects within fixed deadlines and tight budget parameters. The incumbent should be fully committed and dedicated to the job with a passion/interest for Indian football.

  • Prior experience in developing and implementing competitions and events model is ideal.
  • Previous experience of organizing or working in international events is an advantage.
  • Experience in dealing with all the State Football Associations, State Governments, FIFA and AFC and deep understanding of the key players in the industry at each venue is an asset.
  • Ability to solve problems, manage negotiations, and conflict resolutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with a proven record of managing budgets.
  • Proven leadership skills and respectful attitude towards subordinates in high-pressure situations with good motivational skills.
  • An open-minded approach and an ability to bring together multiple stakeholders for development of football and the tournament.
  • Must be highly resilient and organized, as well as be able to manage conflict and communicate clearly.
  • Similar experience in football management is preferred.
