Vision India is the part of Vision Asia Project launched by the AFC President Mr. Mohammed Bin Hammam in September 2002 and ultimate goal of AFC President with this project is to prepare Asian countries in best possible football environment (infrastructure, administration, sports sciences, technical staff, etc.,) so that one day Asian team wins the FIFA World Cup. The AFC President has a firm belief that Asia with 3.7 billion population, has the potential to produce many world class football nations. Under Vision Asia project in each of the pilot project countries 11 key elements of football will be developed so as to catch up with counterparts in Europe and the rest of the world. The eleven elements are: National Association & Clubs, Marketing, Grassroots & Youth, Coach Education, Referees, Sports Medicine, Competitions, Media, Fans, Women Football, and Futsal. India is one of the eight countries under Vision Asia Project and as per the action plan Vision Asia team visit National Associations to assess the situation. Following the assessment stage, target goals are set and recommendations for improvement are made to the National Association. For India assessment report and goals were set by Vision Asia team in 2004 and two pilot project States were designated i.e. Manipur and Delhi. The assessment report and set goals for National Association and two pilot project States were discussed with AFC experts. AIFF after detailed deliberation and discussion with AFC and other stakeholders involved in the project has reset the goals and made targets as per priority areas. As far as National Association is concerned AIFF will focus on restructuring and professionalization of the administration, grassroots and youth development, coach education, club development, re-structuring of competitions and development of women football as per set goals. Two pilot project States i.e., Manipur and Delhi, the project will focus on restructuring of administration, grassroots and youth development, women football, restructuring of competition, adoption of new statues in line with AIFF, coach education, referee development, media relations, and club development as per set goals from 2006. For Delhi project AIFF has managed a sponsor and the project will be sponsored by SAIL and thus, the project is called as “SAIL VISION INDIA PROJECT DELHI”. The set goals in Vision India and two pilot project States are to be achieved in specified timeframe and goals are set in three different categories i.e. short term goals (within 2 years), medium term goals (within 5 years) and long term goals (within 10 years). In order to implement the project in each of the pilot project States and at National Association a Task Force is constituted, which involves all the important members of the government, society and stakeholders. If the project in two pilot project States is successful then the model will be applied in other States of the country. AIFF President, Mr. Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, is spearheading the project and making all necessary efforts within his resources to see the project has a smooth run and attains the set goals. Mr. Alberto Colaco, AIFF General Secretary India with all sincerity and hard work is implementing the goals of Vision India as per priority in active cooperation with AIFF Executive Committee members. The implementation part of the project has started this year i.e. 2006 and so far the progress is satisfactory, and with the active cooperation and hard work of all the stakeholders the project will be highly successful and achieve its goals. This is initial phase of the project , we have to be patient in our expectation regarding results, the expected result will only come in next 10-15 years .
