East Bengal today entered the final of the U-19 Football Tournament for I-League teams and will take on Sporting Clube de Goa in the summit clash on Sunday. In their last league clash, they thrashed Pune FC 2-0 to progress to the final, here at their home ground on Friday.
The red and gold brigade finished tied with Pune FC and Dempo on three points but they qualified to the next round having scored maximum goals.
For East Bengal their inform forward Pankaj Moula opened the scoring in the 41st minute before Rajib Ghoroi doubled the scoring in the 75th minute.
This put all the three teams in the group , East Bengal, Pune FC and Dempo SC tied on three points. The goal difference put Dempo (-2) out of contention but failed to separate the remaining two teams, who had similar figures of +1.
But East Bengal had the last laugh having scored five goals against Pune FC's three, thus sailing into it to the final.
