After Pune FC played out 1-1 draw with newly crowned champions Dempo SC in a last round tie of ONGC I-League on Thursday, former champions Churchill Brothers have definite chance to notch up the second place, if they manages to overcome Air India challenge in their last and final round match on Friday.
Churchill squandered a chance to clinch the second spot after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Federation Cup champions East Bengal in their last encounter and thus only managed to pocket two points from their last three games.
The Goan giants have had a mixed season but will like to end their campaign with a win, which will help them to clinch the runners up trophy. Churchill are lying at fourth place with 40 points.
Air India, who are facing the axe have 28 points and too are desperately looking for three points to save the relegation. The Airmen have struggled throughout the I-league but mostly because of prolonged injury to their key players.
Churchill will be missing Dhanchandra Singh and Raju Yamnam due to one match automatic suspension but all eyes will be on their skipper Odafe Onyeka Okolie, who is leading the highest goal scorer chart with 20 goals.
The Nigerian marksman haven’t had best outing in this edition of the I-league as compared to his past records but still was able to walk away with highest goal scorer trophy for the fourth consecutive years. |
