MUMBAI FOOTBALL CLUB

Brief History

The vision of a community based football club in Mumbai was first thought up by Mr. Sanjay Das, Director of Mumbai F.C. Together with Mr. Amit Goenka, M.D. of Playwin, they put forth their vision of a football club that Mumbai can be proud of into motion. They acquired the services of Henry Menezes, a man many regard as the best Indian football manager in present times. Along with Business Development & Marketing Head, Mukul Choudhari, the core management team was complete. Identifying David Booth as the coach to lead Mumbai FC’s aspirations, the objective of being the best professionally managed football club in India has begun to take shape. The importance of being a community based club was felt by one and all and ‘Mumbai F.C.’ as the name of the club was approved unanimously. After recruiting some current Indian internationals and other talented players, Mumbai F.C. was formally launched amidst great fanfare on 28th May, 2007.

Much thought has gone into the launch of Mumbai FC, with no expense and effort being spared to meet every requirement of the AIFF and also keeping in mind the vision of AIFF in line with FIFA towards promoting football in the country.

To gain entry into the 2nd Division of the National Football League meant having in its ranks a number of international, national and state level payers, which Mumbai FC fulfilled. The AIFF also stipulated that the club should have under-19 and under-15 teams, access to a practice ground, gymnasium and a home stadium, and should adopt one school. Towards this end, Mumbai FC has tied up with the Thakur Group of Kandivli, which gives us access to a practice ground, gymnasium and a tie-up with three schools and two colleges. The home stadium for Mumbai FC will be the Cooperage.

Mumbai F.C. has plans for a full-fledged academy in the near future to nurture and develop talent. The club’s history has just begun to be written. The road ahead is one of adventure and we invite everyone to be a part of it.
