Riding high on Edmar Figueira brace Pune F.C registered their second successive victory in the ONGC I-League trouncing Salgaocar S.C 3-1 in their tenth round match played at Nehru Stadium, Margao on Sunday.
Edmar put the visitors ahead in the 24th minute heading in Othallo Tabia's cross from the right flank. The Pune outfit dominated the first half proceedings and went for the break with a well deserved lead.
Salgaocar could not create much of an impact in the first half as their midfield looked totally off colour today and gave way the possession rather easily to their opponent.
After the breather Salgaocar did tighten up the things putting up a better performance in the second half and had couple of early chances to equalize but Keita Mandjou and Chandam Chitra failed to cash on the chances.
Pune capitalized all the scoring chances that fell in their kitty and increased their lead in the 74th minute when Arata Izumi found the back of the net of a rebound. Salgaocar retaliated and reduced the margin three minutes later through their Guinean striker Mandjou Keita. The striker headed in after Milagres Gonsalves shot hit the woodwork.
Salgaocar attacked with more vigour and came close to find the equalizer on couple of occasion. Edmar Figueira then confirmed Pune FC victory in the 81st minute when he dribbled past Salgaocar defenders Keenan Almeida and Peter Costa before placing his left footer to the right of Salgaocar custodian Kalyan Chaubey.
Pune F.C are now placed at eight in the I-League standings with twelve points, while Salgaocar have plummeted down themselves to twelfth spot with seven points.
