KINGFISHER EAST BENGAL CLUB

 

A)BRIEF HISTORY :

 East Bengal Club was founded in the year 1920 by Raja Manmatha Nath Chowdhury and Suresh Chandra Chowdhury (Maharajas of Santosh which is a place in Bangladesh , the then Undivided India , the Santosh Trophy is titled under this name), Principal Sharada Ranjan Roy, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Sen.  (who was famous by his nick name Nasa) and Sailesh Chandra Bose.    

East Bengal Club got the affiliation of Indian Football Association then run by British  after a great struggle and effort as other Indian Clubs (in Calcutta ) were not in favour of our affiliation. Gradually by the performance the name of East Bengal Club came in the limelight and ultimately got the first flavor of the Calcutta League in the year 1942 and I.F.A. Shield by winning in the year 1943 and again club won the I.F.A. Shield, Calcutta 1st Division league in the year 1945. The domination of the club in Indian Football started since then by winning almost all the major tournaments through out India including the most coveted tournament National Football League in the year 2000-2001, 2002-2003 &2003-2004 and won the ASEAN Cup in Jakarta in July 2003 and qualified to the Quarter Final round AFC Cup 2004 as the Champion Club of India by defeating Champion Clubs of Singapore, Malaysia and Maldives.  

East Bengal Club is the only club in India who was invited by Romania Youth Festival Committee to participate in their football tournament at Bucharest in the year 1953 as the best football club of India on recommendation of the then President of India Late Dr. Rajendra Prasad. East Bengal is the only club in India who has represented India in the Asian Club Cup and Asian Cup Winners Cup football tournament nine times out of twelve times so far being played as Champion Club of India. Masood Fakri of East Bengal Club was the first Asian footballer to play professional football in England after that Bhaichung Bhutia a player of East Bengal Club played professional football in England as the first Indian footballer. The great Indian Footballers like Ahmed Khan, Byomkesh Bose, Appa Rao, Salleh P. Venkatesh, K.P. Dhanraj, Taj Mohammed, Balaram, Sanat Sett, Prasanta Sinha, Arun Ghosh, Md. Habib, Syed Nayeemuddin, Subhas Bhowmick, Sudhir Karmakar, Manoranjan Bhattacharya, Bhaskar Ganguly, Krishanu Dey and many other who represented the Country in Olympic and in other International Football Tournaments in several times played for East Bengal. 

 

East Bengal Club defeated Pas Club of Iran in 1970, Piyong Young Club of Korea in 1973 in the I.F.A. Shield Final, Dok-Ro-Gang Club of Korea in the final of D.C.M. football tournament held at New Delhi in 1973 and Port Authority Club of Thailand in the final of Bordoloi Trophy in Guwahati (Assam) in the year 1978. The club has very good track record of defeating foreign teams. 

 

 The club defeated Champion Club Iraq Al- Zawara in Asian Cup winners Cup football tournament at Calcutta by a margin of 6-2 in the year 1993 All India Football Federation have introduced National Football League for U-19 N.F.L. Clubs in the name of  Club General Secretary Late Dipak (Paltu) Das and K.E.B. U-19 became the Champion and again we won the U-19 N.F.L. in the second successive year. 

 

East Bengal Club was first club in India who formed a limited company with United Breweries Ltd under the Chairmanship of Dr. Vijay Mallya & Late Dipak (Paltu) Das as the Managing Director under the name and style of UNITED EAST BENGAL FOOTBALL (P) LTD with a brand name of “KINGFISHER EAST BENGAL” in the year 1998 and are proud to be associated with the UB Group.
