ONGC Nehru Cup

India Won the 13th ONGC Nehru Cup  

India emerged as the winner of the 13th ONGC Nehru Cup by beating Syria 1-0 in the final on 29th August , 2007 at the Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi.

    Scorer : NP Pradeep

    Captain  : Baichung Bhutia

    Coach : Bob Houghton

Olympics

4th place in 1956 Melbourne Olympics ,Neville D’Souza became the first Indian to score a hat trick in the Olympics .His hat-trick helped India beat hosts Australia 4-2.India lost 0-3 to Bulgaria to finish 4th.

Asian Games 

Gold Medal in the 1951 New Delhi Asian Games. Captain Sailen Manna(Bengal) and Coach SA Rahim (Hyderabad).beat Iran 1-0 in the Finals on 10 Mar. Goal Scorer :S Mewa Lal .

 

Gold Medal in the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. Captain Chuni Goswami (Bengal) and Coach SA Rahim (Hyderabad).beat South Korea 2-1 in the Final on September 4th.Goal Scorers: PK Banerjee & Jarnail Singh.

 

Bronze Medal in the 1970 Bangkok Asian Games. Captain Syed Nayeemuddin (Bengal) and Coach GMH Basha (Karnataka) assisted by PK Bannerji who was designated as Manager.

 

Asia Cup

Silver medal in the 1964 Asia Cup held in Tel-Aviv,Israel .Captain Chuni Goswami (Bengal) & Coach Harry Right (England)

 

Asian Youth Championship

 

Gold Medal (Joint Winner with Iran ) in 1974 at Bangkok .Captain Shabbir Ali( Maharashtra ) and Coaches SA Alam (AP) and Arun Ghosh (Bengal).Drew 2-2 with Iran .Scorers: N Lateefuddin and Shabbir Ali.

 

Pesta Sukan Trophy

 

Held in Singapore in Aug 1971.Joint winner with South Vietnam. Captain Chandreshwar Prasad (Bengal) and Coach :PK Banerjee (Railways) and GMH Basha (Karnataka)

 

LG Cup in HoChi Minh City,Aug 2002

 

India emerged champions beating the hosts South Vietnam 3-2 in the Finals on 10 Aug .Captain Bhaichung Bhutia and Coach Stephen Constatine (England).Scorers :Bhaichung Bhutia 2 & Abhishek Yadav .

 

SAF Games 

India emerged winners thrice in this multi disciplined Games held for South Asian Nations.

 

1985 –Dhaka – Captain Sudeep Chatterjee and Coach PK Banerjee (Railways ).beat Bangladesh 5-3 on Penalties in the Final.

 

1987 – Kolkata – Captain Babu Mani (Bengal) and Coach Amal Dutta and Syed Nayeemuddin (Both  Bengal ) beat Nepal 1-0 in the Finals.Scorers :M Fareed.

 

1995-Chennai - Captain Bruno Coutinho (Goa) and Coach Rustam Akhramov /Uzbeksitan .beat Bangladesh 1-0 in the Finals.Goal Scorers :Shabbir Pasha 

 

SAFF Championships

 

India has won this Championship four times which is held for South Asian National Football Teams. Earlier called SAARC International Tournament in 1993.

 

1993 –Lahore –Capt VP Sathyan (Bengal) Coach Jiri Pesek (Czechslovakia)

1997- Capt Carlton Chapman (Kerala) and Caoch Syed Nayeemuddin (Bengal) beat Maldives in the Final. Scorers : Jo Paul Ancheri ,Bhaichung Bhutia ,IM Vijayan 2 & Amit Das.

 

1999-Goa – Capt Bruno Coutinho (Goa) and Coach Sukhwinder Singh (Punjab) beat Bangladesh 2-0 in the Finals.Scorers : Bruno Coutinho & Bhaichung Bhutia

 

2005 –Karachi – Capt –Bhaichung Bhutia & Coach Syed Nayeemuddin .beat Bangladesh 2-0 in the Finals.Scorers: Mehrajuddin Wadoo & Bhaichung Bhutia.

 

Wales International Tournament

 

East Bengal won this inaugural tournament in July 2003 beating AFC Champions League BEC Tero Sassana 3-1 in the Finals on 26 July 2003 .Scorers: Mike Okoro ,Bhaichung Bhutia and Alvito D Cunah.Captain Suley Musah.Coach Subhash Bhowmick 

 

First Afro Asian Games: Semi Finals

 

India beat Zimbabwe 5-3 in the semi final of the 1st Afro Asian Games in Hyderabad on 29 Oct 03 .Scorers: IM Vijayan 2 ,Bhaichung Bhutia 2 and Rennedy Singh .Lost to Uzbekistan 0-1 in the Finals.Coach Stephen Constatine (England)
